“Dalao” is a word transliterated from the dialect of the Qi (a branch of the Li). This instrument is popular in the areas of Baoting and Lingshui (counties in Hainan). It is 30cm~36 cm in length, with 8 finger holes (seven in the front and one in the back) on its body, and a resonator made of coconut shell fixed on its end. Dalao sounds rough and loud, and was mostly used in weddings and funerals in the early time.
